Perspective.

If you could only see what I see. Sitting in 5C. Taking the scenic route over the San Francisco Bay. The Oakland hills and harbor on my right. Turning slowly out over Sausalito. San Francisco on the left. The sun just beginning to set on the Pacific. I may have limited leg room, but I have a 12” x 20” window on the world. And at times like this, at this altitude, the world doesn’t looks so bad at all.

Yea that's good. But I just got a view of the big Island of Hawaii and returned home from a field evolution with no showers and food that comes in a "container" and got to see my 1 1/2 year old daughter.

Now that is something to marvel at.

My 3 year old niece and 4 year old nephew each sang "Happy Birthday" to me on the phone this weekend. Life seemed all sorts of worthwhile when I heard it and every time I have re-played it since.

I had that same view just the other day, flying back to the bay area, but I saw sunrise over Oakland, which lit up the Golden Gate and Alcatraz. We even flew low over the Bay Bridge, and for a moment it felt like I could reach out and touch the TransAmerica pyramid.

Things certainly do look better from up there.

got the same view again today. sometimes i love my job. usually from 30,000 feet.
