well, it's good you aren't gay. the swallowing thing would be a downer....however if you can still suck, then you aren't cut completely from the sex market. good luck! and get better dammit. you've been sick TOO long!
Contac is great for the mucus--dries you right up. As for the endless hacking cough, I still have mine from when I sick with the flu in December, but I went to the doctor's office and got myself a prescription for some really effective cough suppressants--Humibid DM capsules to take in the morning and a cough syrup with codeine to take at night. I totally recommend them.
Have you seen the doctor? If you've had this for a week it doesn't sound like a virus. It sounds more like a secondary bacterial infection has set in and you need an antibiotic. Now.
In the mean time, gargle frequently with warm salt water (1 teaspoon in 1 cup water); find a vaporizer to use at night in your room (they're under 20 bucks at Walgreen's or Sam's or whereever). Push fluids, lots of non-milk products like hot vegetable broth or clear juice, green tea.
And use an OTC drug with a decongestant and an expectorant in it; think Robitussin makes one. The decongestant will dry up mucus, the expectorant will "expel" what ever remains. Ask the pharmacist to direct you to the best one that meets these criteria.
A good spanking might help, too. Sheesh, go to the doctor, will you? Please.
I suggest going away for a day or two (or a fortnight) and let someone take care of you. It did wonders for me. :) (Then again, I left the state, so . . . it may have limited benefits)
I feel your pain. I can't swallow either and its beginning to get to me. How is it possible to go a week without having one good swallow? It definitely sucks.

(and just to be totally clear for any of you new to the site, i'm referring to the virus that has closed my throat with mucus for the last week.)

gargle and get meds and lozenges... that same thing stayed with me for 3.5 weeks between thanksgiving and xmas... a hacking cough will follow.

Get some rest and stop complaining....I mean..., rest your voice for a day or two.

It takes practice. I had a hard time swallowing the first time I tried it!

Clearly the only solution is to get someone to do the swallowing for you.
You know, for medicinal purposes.

So there was a time when you were a swimmer? I'm curious, what did you swim? Were you any good?
Do you miss it?
