Vote.

I am not going to vote for George Bush in November. Not because he is a Republican. Not because he is pro-life. Not because he is using fear as a means to control public opinion. Not because he wants to amend the Constitution of The United States to alienate up to 10% of the population. Not because his primary campaign contributors and personal business interests represent petroleum and energy companies that have cost the American people (and Californians during the energy crisis) untold billions of dollars. Not because he is an inarticulate, bumbling stooge whose policy decisions and rhetoric have consistently alienated the United States from the international community. Not because his record on the environment is the worst in modern history, and his administration has been the bane of every major ecological organization in the world. Not because his administration lied to the world and the American people (or at the very, very least failed in it's intelligence) in order justify a war. Although I think we all need to consider that very carefully. A war, people. A war.

I'm not going to vote for him because in the last year 890 Americans and up to 3000 Iraqi civilians have died.

And Osama bin Laden has not.

Thank you once again for summarizing exactly what I feel like I try to say to people when the subject is brought up. Lately I feel like I would like to meet someone who could explain to me in a calm and non argumentative way why ANYONE would vote for George. I'm sure there must be an intelligent conservative out there who must have a point or two I seem to be missing. It's just, well, so black and white to me.

But he's brought freedom to Iraq! And we're safer and home and junk! Don't you feel safer? Huh? I'm hoping he'll just install himself as dictator-for-life, as he's already making plans to with this whole postponing the election business.

The vast majority of intelligent conservatives aren't voting for Bush in November either. The national debt has exploded in the past three years... not exactly the bedrock of fiscal conservatism. Instead of "tax and spend", this administration decided to "borrow and spend." That's just one of many reasons...

When former NJ governor Christine Todd Whitman, a sensible moderate Republican if there ever was one, bailed on the administration two years ago, I knew it was a sinking ship. It's a shame that Rice and Powell have to go down with it, because I think they're brilliant people who could've done a lot of good, given an honest chance.

*exhale* Aaah, I feel better now.

Where's John McCain when you really need him?

well said, jimbo. although i realize i'm in the minority when i confess i'm disillusioned with both candidates.

I hope a lot of you actually make an effort to go out and NOT vote for Bush.

i'm borrowing my friend's van and driving all of my friends to vote this year. sorry ralph, it's too important to waste my vote on you again this year.

oh and i'm not voting for bush because he looks funny and he doesn't seem to have passed high school language arts and english class yet.

"Where's John McCain when you really need him?"

Campaigning, unapologetically, for Bush (f*cking sellout!)

Incidentally, I saw a GREAT slogan idea online today:

"Time to flush the Bushit...
Install two new Johns in the Whitehouse!"

To be fair, there were a number of prominent democrats who believed(and publicly stated) that Saddam had weapons of mass destruction and was a real threat. It can be very interesting to see both sides, before and after. You know, once hindsight hits.

Seen Fahrenheit 9/11 yet? Wonder if that will make a dent in the voting public? Notice it won best picture in the 2004 Cannes film festival?

I'm off the hook, I'm not a citizen but I have to say I can't stand Kerry.

EXCELLENT post, Jimbo. This very topic has been bothering me all day. Called a long-time friend to wish him happy birthday, told him I had a blog, and the next thing you know, I'm being lambasted for being Anti-Bush.

You say it so much better than I ever could.

And I think I just came up with the topic for my next post!

i can understand all that he's done so far. I don't condone or support it for a second, but I can see how he managed to do it, and sometimes I can see the weird level he is at where it seems like he's doing something good.

Where I get lost is when the leader of my lovely Australian nation can see your george and want to copy him. And, sadder still, actually do it.

George might be a global disaster, but at least he's original.

I'm like Suz. Just like last election I feel a little hopeless because I don't like either choice.

And there's always the rumor that come September, they're going to "find" Osama -- just in time for an election sweep.

Yeah Susan...like Donald Trump said, how can you _not_ find a guy who is 6' tall and needs dialysis? And I too have a feeling Bush will pull Osama out of his pocket come September or so. And what's this about delaying the Presidential election due to an 'unspecified terrorist threat'? Creepy, creepy shit from his administration. I too am not crazy for Kerry, but better the devil you know than the devil who is a dolt.

Why is it that everyone bitches about our president and what we are doing in IRAQ; with the exception of almost everybody in the Military. Interesting.

Hey Jim's Brother:

Are you in the military? Are you close to anyone in the military?

I served in the Marines during the first Gulf War and can say for certain that most of the guys I served with wondered what the hell we were really doing there. The same goes for those guys whose asses are on the line while they walk the streets in Iraq, I assure you.

While you might think that those in the military mindlessly serve whomever is sitting in the Commander-in-Chief chair, you could not be more wrong. Marines (I can only speak for them) talk quite a bit about what they are asked to do, whether that is preparing an airplane to drop bombs or move in to secure a building.

Don't sell the military short -- they have a job to do, and they don't spend a lot of time complaining about it. But among themselves, they are talking and waiting for their time to help vote in a president who has their best interests (defined as their "lives" and their "health") at heart.

my brother has almost ten years in active service and is an officer in the marine corps and very well aware.

However, I still disagree with the implication that everyone in the military agrees with and/or likes this President. It just isn't true.

Having served, I take exception to gross generalizations because, usually, those making generalizations about the military aren't and usually have never been a member thereof -- they certainly aren't officers in the Marine Corps.

(See, Marines *don't* all think alike. Heh.)

Semper Fi!

Excellent decision and an excellent reason.

The problem with the war is that Democrats have pussified America to the point that we can't EVER win a war. That would not be fair... I'm sure we would all have a different outlook if we actually got the OIL for BLOOD. Imagine filling up your Explorer for $6.25, Jimbo.... makes the 3000 Iraqis every bit as inconsequential as they were before CNN got there.

And in response to the evil regime we have in place - imagine, if you will, the predicament we would be in if Al Gore and Kermit the Frog were in office when all this towelhead shit started going down.... Trust those guys to protect us? And I'm sick of the left crying about the lies... Oh, the lies... explain to me what I had to hear about in the news every day for 6 years of the Clinton administration? A giant circle jerk that costed a fortune - why? Somebody wasn't telling the truth... But that doesn't matter unless it's a Republican.

Bottom line - there will never be a good choice for President until I run in 2008. My foreign policy is simple - if they piss me off, we nuke, we pave them over, and we turn their country into a satellite gas station for the good old USA. Those people will continue to hate us (and try to kill us) no matter what we do. They are stupid, they are poor, they smell bad, they dress worse, and they talk funny. Screw them and take their oil. We deserve it.

Other pillars of my platform? Legalize, eliminate school zones, truly separate church and state, and institute a 2:30pm curfew for old people.... Oh, and forbid women from using the self-checkout aisles and remote controls.

Now when you do cast your vote in 2004 - ask yourself one question. If you asked John Kerry which way was up, and indicated that you thought up should be down, what would his answer be.....? It wouldn't be short, and it would be an answer - that's for sure...

baby arm.

We all know that presidents are going to fudge the truth a bit while they are in office...it's necessary in some very limited instances.

But, when they lie and it is a lie that hurts the US we have to investigate...sometimes that investigation should lead to sanctions.

Now, let's see here...Clinton got blow jobs, but lied about it. Okay, that probably hurt the US cause we wound up looking kind of stupid...

Bush lied in order to start a war, the result of which is that hundreds upon hundreds of our troops are dead and thousands upon thousands injured -- not to mention those who died in Iraq, both military and non-combatant. Now the US suffered because most every other country doubts our integrety and many countries we are already on rocky ground with think that we are a force poised to take over each of their countries. We are drowning in a record defecit...shall I go on?

You tell me who should have been/be sanctioned and who should have been slapped on the hand.

sean, i wouldn't vote for you, but dammit, i wouldn't ever want you to change either. you totally make insensitivity cool. next bud light is on me.
