Plans.
I just purchased my ticket to London, followed by an EasyJet connection to Milan. $547 bucks to Gatwick, then another $50 Euro for the Milan flight. My climbing partner is meeting me there for a week of international rock hopping, then I have a week of knocking around my homeland. Question is, where to go when I get there?
Bigger question is, should I come back?
And no, that's not rhetorical.

Go where the mood strikes you do whatever seems interesting, take your time, wander up in the mountains (San Salvatore soothes the soul and the mind) and stick with your gut on this one. Life is too short for regrets.
As an interesting and useless tidbit, I paid over 1000 bucks for my man-child to fly to Milan...but then again, I needed a direct flight from Chi Town with no connections. Can't have a 14 year old wandering around international airports by himself now can we? Likely he wouldn't have come back either! And I wouldn't blame him a bit. When I first decided to leave home (parents) (another useless tidbit) the first thing I thought of was going back to Europe, I even booked a flight to London and let someone talk me out of it and if I believed in regrets, I would regret it, instead, lesson learned...stick to your gut and go for it. Happy trails!

Tuscany. And Florence. And whether you come back depends on the outcome of the election . . . when are you going?

Verona's my favourite Italian city for just chilling out, or wander off into the Alps or Apennines if you're not hilled-out - the Lonely Planet guide to Italy is very good, and they also publish a 'Walking in Italy' guide too. Enjoy!

In 2 weeks I will be in Norway followed by 11 days in London - you can always meet me there *lol*. I know a blogger who has a B&B just outside Rome - you could always pop in and spend a day or two with him and his wife.

I'm toying with the idea purchasing tickets to go visit my parents in the uk in two weeks. $158 each way is a decent price.

why keep an apartment? I'm not trying to flame but just keep a storage unit and keep on doing what you are doing. I'm too poor to travel but enjoy living vicariously through your posts and pics.

The only thing I would ever say to that is follow your heart. Funny enough, that can sometimes be the hardest advice to follow.

Oh I envy you. I've only seen Venice (loved it), but am dying to get back and see the rest of the country. Salzburg (just to the North) is awesome, too.

I lived in Italy (mostly Rome) for a year, and my favorite places are (in no particular order): Rome / Florence / San Gimignano / Sicily (the big island!) / Assisi / and Siena. Up north in the Alto Adige / Alps region where you may be climbing, Trento and Bolzano are worth a look and away from the major crowds. You can't take a wrong turn anywhere in that amazing country. You lucky dog, you!
