There is actually a wonderful and enlightening discussion in _The Incredibles_ that lists the reason why fashionable superheros would not ever be caught in a cape. I recommend it.

Boots and a belt would work . . . but brooches are all the rage. And no Metro Man would be complete without three to hold his cape tightly around his neck!
