So it begins.
I asked.
They accepted.
From VP to first line.
As of today, I've been approved for up to twelve months leave. I think I'll take six.
I feel like a weight has been lifted, but a new one has been added. Shit, I have a LOT to do. Finances, visas, bills, leases, tickets, gear, it's daunting.
Brazil first? Argentina? Who's coming with?

Since for me to choose to go it would mean I'm running AWAY from my problems I'll have to decline.
I hope you find amazing wonders....

I'd come with you but I'm thinkin' it's pretty hard to rock climb wearing a baby in a Baby Bjorn. VERY exciting. Congratulations. Oh! The places you'll go... (And that mastiff? I totally want to tackle him and chomp on his neck rolls, Mraawgh! Will we still get pics of him when you are gone? :-(

definitely come visit in sydney the last half of february! (:

xdm: the baby bjorn can hurt your back! try the shoulder sling instead, it gives you a more intimate holding experience as well. still can't take it rock climbing though...

Congratulations!! I'm so proud of you!! How exciting!! Now RUN, run like the wind!
[And ditto on that sling, what Tassy said. A Baby Bjorn only lasts so long, too; a sling can be helpful for nearly two years, until a toddler is fully ambulatory.]

Congratulations! If I could afford it, I'd join you. :\

Courageous.
To think today I scheduled surgery on the 20th December because then I 'save' two weeks of sick leave (as I already had planned vacation for that period)...
I wish I had your courage to say: 'get along without me, I need time for myself'.
May you have the most powerful, life-changing six months of your existance.

hot damn - you'd best manage to make it out to northern canada on your journey. you aren't a tried & true climber until you've done the caves at cattaman in the DEAD of winter.

Tassy & Rayne
My back IS killing me!! Even with the new BBjorn with the lumbar support which was actually just recalled becuase the straps can break. I think it is less the BBjorn and more the fact that my kid is A BEAST. (3.5 mos and @ 17 lbs.) I do have a sling but Chunka Bunk looks like ten pounds of potatoes in a five pound bag in it. Anyway. Back to your regularly scheduled programming: Jimbo's Big Adventure.

Wehew!!!!!
Good job Jim! I'm so happy for you. I'll come but that means the boy's are coming too. You won't mind it too much when they start throwing up on you again, do you?
Hehe! I'll be looking for the photo journey.

Wow! I'm in awe. It's an exciting, big, courageous move! I'm jealous too.... I just hope wherever you're off to, you'll bring along the handy laptop and camera to keep us all in the know!

paris in spring. let's do it.

Dude! Too cool. I am so envious. Wow. What's your itinerary?
Posted by: Susan | November 30, 2004 07:37 PM
Sweeeeet! Nice job jimbo. A great first step (even if you have a LOT to do).
In my South America trip, if I had started in Brazil instead of Peru, I would have stayed longer. Brazil was amazing and the people are wonderful. Um...I also got Giardia (intestinal parasite) en route to Machu Picchu in Peru. Kinda made the majestic sites less fun when you're doubled over in cramps.
It's an exciting time!

Immodium - an international travelers best friend-it saved me and my travel companions on a bus ride from Accra to Kumasi, Ghana West Africa.
Get your Doc to hook you up with some Flagyl (giardia) and meds for nausa prior to your adventure. We did.

I've had this fantasy of riding the Gold Coast in Australia for a while. The beaches are topless there ya know.

Congratulations! Isn't it great that we have the power to make changes in our lives?
Joshua Tree next month? How about Thailand near the end of May? Also still wanting to do that hike to Havasupi Falls. Canada must be avoided.

let me recommend Luckenbach, TX as a potential checkspot. how could you not? and promise me that your final stop on the trip will be Graceland. surely you can see that that's the only way... happy for you.

I'll go anywhere next summer - July or August is totally workable for me. 2-3 weeks. Let me know your itinerary.
Posted by: Julie | December 1, 2004 03:33 AM
i'm not asking all of you to join me on the whole trip, but say if you want to meet me in south america or australia or asia for a week or two, just let me know when and where.
Posted by: the mighty jimbo | December 1, 2004 11:26 AM
if you are going to Australia you have to swing over to New Zealand and Tazmania

I lived in Korea for several years while in school and it is a brilliant country! If I had not been dumb enough to follow a man back to the states I might still be there. Don't mark it off your list of possible places to visit! I would meet you anywhere in Asia! Keep us updated.
