Home?
OC.
Oddly enough, this feels far stranger than Uruguay. I'm desperate for Wahoos. There is more to write but, right now, there is considerably more to unpack.
Until it's time to pack.
Feel free to ping away.

May I be the first to say "welcome home".
I've been jealously reading your posts - you could say "living vicariously" through the Mighty Jimbo. How some of us would love to just take off and tour the world on a whim. What fun!

Yes! Jealous!
Glad the trip was as wonderful as it was, I checked in frequently ... wishing i was in your place instead most of the time.
I didn't get enough travelling in before I got tied down, and look forward to 15 years from now when I'll have the luxury again.
How long until you go again?

Glad you are back home safe, and I hope you get smoochy time soon with your pretty Canadian.
Looking forward to all of your posts/pix from your next adventure!

I'm bummed that you're not coming to Australia, but I suppose I would probably do the same thing. Maybe see you in LA in July?
Posted by: Beth | March 10, 2005 02:35 PM
who says i'm not going to oz? that's the last continent for my passport, girlfriend. i'm just back in oc to:
1. fix my computer
2. get title docs signed on my home sale.
3. get visas for the next round of countries.
4. book the next round of tickets.
5. eat lots of veggie tacos.
6. trade antarctica gear for rock climbing gear.
7. buy lotsa lonely planet guides.
8. see a certain canadian girl who misses me.
don't worry your pretty head. i'll be in sydney soon. and china. and cambodia. and thailand. and hong kong. and maybe a few more. tibet? new zealand? india? the world is just too big.

Welcome Back Jimbo!
Loved reading about your trip and the pix were beyond cool. So, when's the coffee table book of 'Jimbo's Journey' gonna be ready? :-)

Since I'm already talking to you on aim, I'll leave a comment here that I wanted to leave somewhere else, but was too afraid of hurting the person's feelings:
WHAT A BUTTERFACE!

Welcome back, Man! We've all been watching, reading and wondering. So, how "foreign" did that suitcase smell when you busted it open ? :-)
Posted by: xdm | March 10, 2005 06:08 PM
backpack. no suitcases here.
and the goretex still reeks of penguins. that laundry commences tomorrow.
untill then, anyone who wants to know what antarctica smells like, now's your chance. swing by my house this weekend. i should save a glove for slide show purposes later.

Welcome home on this break between trips. It's been great fun reading your posts and the photos have been incredible! Thanks for sharing your trip.
Posted by: Lisa | March 10, 2005 06:44 PM
ah, I misunderstood! I'm moving to the Inner West sunday, so it'll be a hell of a lot easier to hang out in the city with you (as right now it takes me 2 hours to commute by buses and ferries). When are you getting here?
Posted by: Beth | March 10, 2005 11:03 PM
Your pictures were so beautiful! That color of blue that seems to come up from the sea and lights up the ice from underneath might be the most gorgeous color I've ever seen.
Thanks for letting us see!

Welcome back!!!
What a great 2mos you've had so far! Looking forward to reading the rest! And yes, I second the coffee table book of "The Mighty Jimbo's World"!
Posted by: cee | March 11, 2005 05:24 AM
perhaps a scratch-n-sniff coffee table book with a bonus CD hosting that delightful penguin baseball game... and during the second leg of TMJ's World Tour 2005, i would like to cast my vote for more fun with facial hair. say hi to tsunami for me.

Good to see you arrive safe and sound, Jimbo. And CANADIAN GIRLS ROCK.

Thanks for taking the time to share the details of your journey so often along the way. Truly fascinating stuff. I'm thrilled for you.
Enjoy your brief stay in the States! Take care!

Welcome back, if briefly. I'm wondering:
Does this merit yet another send-off party? Because if that thought hasn't occurred to you yet, I think it should. And then I think you should do an East Coast version.
Posted by: rock grrrl | March 11, 2005 09:23 AM
YES! YES! East Coast version- EAST COAST version. We'll show you how to party in DC! I know-- that just sounds so- wrong? Well, we can do it when we have to-- and the coronation *urm- inauguration* doesn't count. Bring it on over, Jimbo!
Posted by: David | March 11, 2005 09:38 AM
although i do know a fair amount of people on the east coast, i'm not sure i know enough frequently drunk and naked people on the east coast to repeat the sordid successes of my parties on the west coast. i would convince all of those people to fly east with me, but unfortunately i think that would take an equal or greater number of drunk naked people to persuade them.
as i do plan to bounce into the right coast on my way back into america during the next go round (that time literally), maybe an east coast welcome back party isn't out of the question. as i will be near totally destitute by that time, i will have to put it's organization into someone elses capabale hands.

This is my virgin post- I was introduced to your blog by a co-worker, and must admit I am intruiged by all of your wonderful pics. When are you planning on leaving again, so everyone here on the East Coast can start formalizing plans for that party?? I'm in FL, but will gladly make the trek up to DC for a party, did it a couple of years ago for an Peace March in 2003.
Posted by: carrie | March 11, 2005 11:58 AM
Yes. DC. Party. Bring SEAN. Also, you look good in a beard. Really, you do.
Posted by: Xdm | March 11, 2005 01:12 PM
i am soooo jealous!
although i think you should have jumped into antarctica, that would've been awesome!
Posted by: davanita | March 11, 2005 01:24 PM
Your pics have totally rocked. It's almost as good as being there with you. Glad the first leg went so well & good luck on the next leg. Keep the great pics coming!!
Posted by: Lindy | March 11, 2005 01:51 PM
You weren't lying about that whole "I am not good at postcards" thing, were ya?
;-)
Posted by: yvonne | March 11, 2005 03:51 PM
What? No Japan?
You should send me your Asia outline and see if we can come up with some madness.
Welcome back - good luck with the preps! Every time I read your stuff from the road I inched closer and closer to abandoning everything, including journalism, which rarely offers sabaticals.
Posted by: sid | March 11, 2005 08:18 PM
thanks for sharing some of the most awesome photos i've ever seen.
and i thought i was lucky for seeing a hawaiian monk seal on the beach every now and then. and a humpback in the pacific when they winter in hawaii.
none of that compares to the adventure you've been on.
i hope you realize how lucky you are. and how lucky we are to share your adventure via the incredible internet.
Posted by: stinkerbelle | March 12, 2005 12:04 AM
Well, glad to see you haven't bailed on the down under leg - I was beginning to doubt your traveller cred dude.
