Riding the slide and just gaining speed.
My most sincere condolences to everyone suffering in this recession, and to be sure, many people are. But thankfully, I'm doing ok.
Sure, inflation and fuel prices and the cost of health care is a bitch to my bottom line, and my 401K is taking a beating, but I've got a good gig that's paying and paying well. I cashed out of IBM near it's peak, and my investment property is generating positive cash flow. I'm debt free and cash flush, so a recession, if I can hang onto my job, could well mean a windfall.
SoCal real estate is down nearly 20% from last year and some economists think that this hit could well climb to 40% by next year. If I work hard, I could come out of this with a shitload of undervalued stock and a couple more investment properties.
I just gotta hang on to the job.
FIngers crossed. I'm going back to work.

Thanks for the condolences. Now, can I have a loan??
*wink!*

bd,
i won't deny ego in a lot of my postings. the very act of having a weblog is essentially an expression of it. the belief that other people may want to hear what you have to say.
but this posting has nothing to do with ego at all. in fact your interpretation of ego in it is surprising.
its just a posting about fortunes. i'm not claiming anything about smarts or work or work ethic or talent. those would be an expression of ego. only that i've found some good fortune as of late in a time when good fortune appears to be hard to find.
more importantly, it's a different way to look at a recession. when things a down, it's time to buy, not sell. and thankfully, i might be able to do that.
if you are looking for ego, i'm sure all my annoyed ex-girlfriends can direct to you a hundred other posts on this site that exhibit way more chest thumping than this one.
