I'm still disappointed.
In lieu of the millions of dollars spent by people outside of state to discriminate against a significant part of my own state's population, I'm rethinking my planned trip to Indian Creek, UT. If I can figure out how to do a camping trip without spending a penny inside Utah, then, maybe. But boarding in Utah this year? Doubtful. Very, very doubtful.
Seems wrong to give my business to bigots.
Now, I understand how passionate people feel about marriage and why they might feel affraid. But it's time to start calling this exactly what it is. Discrimination and bigotry. If you believe that we should prevent a group of free Americans the same rights and privileges that you have, that's precisely what you are.
"Protect marriage." Pshaw. Marriage is a contract. Marriage is a decision. It doesn't NEED constitutional protection. It is protected by those who practice it and decide to keep it. Seems evidently clear to me, however, that what really needs protection are the rights of those citizens who just happened to be born gay.
Anything else we should keep them from doing? Children? How about that? Should we take away their rights to procreate if they feel so inclined? How about adoption? Should loving, stable, willing gay families not have children? Up until recently, many states had laws that actually told them how (not) to fuck. Should we put that into the constitution as well? How about school? They are different than our children. Maybe they will convince our children to be gay. That's it. No homos in school. Maybe we should keep them from teaching in our schools while we are at it. Lord knows. We need to think about the children. I saw the adds.
Fuck. The more I think about this, the more PISSED I get.

A friend at work, who supported No On 8, lamented to me last night that one of the reasons Prop 8 passed was because of the "thing about how churches would have to marry gays" and how that offended alot of people....
Got that? Even a SUPPORTER was duped by the power of the other sides ads and lies. I think it just goes to show how effective the Yes On 8 campaign really was in getting it's message out. Mormon money can buy you some great ads and some great, professional campaign advisors.

sadly, all of those ludicrous questions you posed in the end of your rant are viable in the minds of many "americans".

I would love to link to your post if that is ok with you. I dont live in Cali, but right here in the great midwest we are going to be having this same fight soon enough. My state legalized gay marraige, and it lasted for all of about 47 minutes before it hit the courts. My son also happens to be gay, and making him feel less worthy than anyone else really pisses me the hell off. And seriously...tell me how my son marrying another man will somehow make my marraige weaker and less meaningful?? WTF?? And in case anyone hasnt heard...us heteros dont have all the answers...have you seen the divorce rate?? Sure as hell cant blame that on the "gays" now can we. Ok...enough bitchin...just gets me a little fired up!!

why are you so bent out of shape about this? it ain't like being married is totally kick-ass. the gays should thank utah (or whoever is to blame for this debacle) since they have been given the upper hand on straight folk... is there something you and mike need to tell us?

Jim, tell me again why you are friends with Sean? Is it because you know he isn't really a jerk but someone who just likes to come in to stir the pot?

To Sean,
"is there something you and mike need to tell us?"
Yes, there is.
"They believe in human rights."
Discrimination pisses off ppl who have experienced it, or witnessed it, or know someone close who had to go through it.
Expand you horizon and you might see what we see.

I know why I'M bent out of shape (no, you didn't ask).
It's depressing to see people treat other people so badly.
Nobody else's marriage is any of my business. And vice-versa.
